The Alaska Association of Naturopathic Doctors (AKAND) is a non-profit professional association for Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) in the State of Alaska. NDs have been licensed in the state of Alaska since 1986. We are supported and funded through annual dues paid by our members, contributions from our corporate partners, fundraising activities, and revenue from our educational events.
Shauna Birdsall, ND, FABNO
Dr. Shauna Birdsall is a naturopathic doctor specializing in women’s health and integrative oncology. She is passionate about partnering with her patients to help them understand the root cause of their symptoms and health conditions, navigate their healthcare options, and improve their quality of life. She helps to bridge the gap for patients between conventional and natural forms of medicine. She works closely with other healthcare providers, as many patients are best served by a team of providers, each with their area of expertise. Her approach to care places a high value on educating patients and partnering with them to find lifestyle and nutrition strategies, as well as scientifically backed natural therapies, that will work best for them.
Dr. Birdsall graduated from National University of Natural Medicine in 2000 in Portland, Oregon, and completed her residency at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Naturopathic Medicine and Oncology in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Birdsall was among the first in the nation to be board certified in Naturopathic Oncology in 2007. She loves spending time outdoors with her husband and Bernese Mountain dog, horseback riding, traveling, and cooking.

Timothy C. Birdsall, ND, FABNO
Dr. Tim Birdsall is an experienced Naturopathic Doctor who has had the privilege of working in a wide variety of clinical settings, including primary naturopathic care and hospital-based oncology. While seeing patients of all ages with a broad range of health concerns, Dr. Tim has a particular interest in helping people with chronic disease.
After receiving his undergraduate premed training at Grace College, Dr. Tim earned the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (N.D.) degree from Bastyr University in Seattle in 1985, and went on to complete his residency at Bastyr, and subsequently served on the teaching faculty there for 5 years. He is licensed as a Naturopathic Doctor in Alaska, Washington, Arizona and California, and is board-certified in Naturopathic Oncology by the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology.

Marion Clement, ND
Dr. Marion Clement is a naturopathic doctor in general family medicine who enjoys caring for patients of all ages. She treats patients will all health complaints, both acute and chronic, and especially likes working with children, women’s health, and preventative medicine so that small problems stay small.

Gary Ferguson, ND
Gary Ferguson (Aleut/Unangax) is a Qagan Tayagungin tribal member and licensed Naturopathic Doctor. He serves as Director of Outreach & Engagement, Institute for Research and Education to Advance Community Health (IREACH) at Washington State University. Dr. Ferguson has spent twenty years working across Alaska to address the social, economic, cultural and environmental factors that contribute to the health and well-being of Alaskans. Dr. Ferguson is the co-producer of the Store Outside Your Door – Alaska Native cultural food traditions around how to hunt, fish, gather and grow. Dr. Luper graduated from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine (currently National University of Naturopathic Medicine) with honors in research in 1994. He taught at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Arizona, serving as Chair of Diagnostics and Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Cameron O’Connell is a Naturopathic primary care doctor with interests in longevity, endocrinology and sexual health. Dr. O’Connell hails from Alaska and spent much of her childhood improving her microbiome by playing in the forest and foraging for snacks among the edible flora.
